3 Best Ways to Double Underline Text in Google Docs

Method 1: Using Paragraph Borders

This option is best used to underline text in a paragraph. Here’s how it works:

Step 1:OpenGoogle Docsin your preferred browser and open the document you want to edit.

Step 2:Type thetextyou want underlined on the Google Docs canvas.

Step 3:Select the text and pressCtrl + Uto underline it.

Step 4:On the Google Docs Ribbon, click theFormattab.

Step 5:ClickParagraph Stylesand chooseBorders and shadingfrom the extended menu.

Step 6:Click theBottom borderoption.

Step 7:In the Paragraph Padding section, set it to0 pt.

Step 8:ClickApplyto save your changes.

Method 2: Using the Drawing Tool

Step 1:Open Google Docs in your preferred browser and open the document you want to edit.

Step 2:Place yourcursoron the Google Docs canvas in a location where you would like to insert the double underlines.

Step 3:On the Google Docs Ribbon, click theInserttab.

Step 4:SelectDrawingfrom the Insert menu > chooseNew.

Step 5:On the Drawing tool ribbon, click thelinebutton.

Step 6: On the Drawing tool canvas, place yourcursor, which should look like a +, and draw thefirst underline.

Step 7:Beneath the first line, drawanother line.

Step 8:Click onSave and Closeto close the Drawing tool. The newly created line drawing should now be on the Google Docs canvas.

Step 9: Click thenew line drawingand selectBehind textfrom the options shown.

Step 10:Move the double underline to the text you want to highlight.

Method 3: Using Equations

Step 1:Open Google Docs in your preferred browser and open the document you want to edit.

Step 2:Place yourcursoron the Google Docs canvas in a location where you would like to insert the double underlines.

Step 3:On the Google Docs ribbon, click theInserttab > selectEquation.

Step 4:Type the following:\underlinein the equation box.

Step 5:Hit thespacebar, and you will see a line form.

Step 6:In the equation box again, type the following:\underlineand hit thespace bar. Another line will form beneath the first one.

Step 7:After getting the double lines, write thetextyou want underlined.

There you have it. You have double-underlined text in Google Docs.

The standard text flow is from left to right when writing in English and most other languages. However, there are other languages where text is written from right to left. You canchange the text direction in Google Docsto conform with the language you are working with.
