3 Ways to Turn Off RCS on Android, Including Samsung

What Happens When You Disable RCS on Android

The main difference between SMS and RCS is that SMS messages are sent over a cellular network, whereas RCS messages require internet connectivity. So, when you turn off RCS, you can’t send messages over the Internet. All the new messages will revert to SMS/MMS text format, and you will be charged for regular SMS.

You will also lose access to RCS features, such as read receipts, typing indicators,reactions, the ability to send high-quality images, etc. Disabling RCS will not delete your previous messages.

Method 1: Turn off RCS Messaging in Google Messages

Step 1:In Google Messages, tap on the profile picture at the top-right corner and selectMessages settings.

Step 2:Tap onRCS chats.

Step 3:Turn off the toggle next toTurn on RCS chats. A confirmation pop-up will show up. Tap onTurn off.

Method 2: Turn off RCS Messaging in Samsung Messages

Step 1: Launch theSamsung Messages appon your Samsung Galaxy phone.

Step 2:Tap on thethree-dot iconat the top and selectSettings.

Step 3:Go toChat settingsand turn off the toggle next toChat features.

Method 3: Disable RCS Chats Without Old Phone

If you arefacing issues with RCSon your new Android phone, you should disable it on your old Android phone. If you can’t access your old phone, Google offers another way to turn off RCS chat on a web browser.

In this method, enter your registered mobile number along with an OTP to verify your number on the Google page, as shown below:

Step 1:Open theDisable Chat pageof Google Messages, and scroll down on the page to the ‘Without your previous device’ section.

Step 2:Select yourcountryand enter thephone numberregistered with RCS. Enter the verification code and click on theVerify buttonto turn off RCS.
