1. DMV Permit Practice Test Genie: Get the Basics Right
If you apply for a learner’s permit or earn your driver’s license, you must thoroughly understand the basics of driving. All the rules, signboards, road geometry, how your car works, and every other theoretical knowledge that will equip you to be a good driver. This app will help you get all of the above right.
DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) conducts a test that can be hard to clear if you are unfamiliar with the laws of the land. DMV Genie wants to help by simulating these tests. You can select the license you need – whether it is a car, CDL, or a motorcycle.
You can select questions and tests based on the state you live in. Each state has slightly different rules, so the app lets you pick a state before you begin. You can also use the app if you aren’t taking a test within the US. The app helps you prepare for the permit in Canada and the UK as well.
If you answer a question wrong, you get a pop-up explaining the answer in detail, so you also learn and improve with each step. You also have an option to view your overall performance and assess the probability of passing the test. The app is free to use and ad-supported. You can make an in-app purchase to unlock questions and remove ads.

2. Zutobi: Gamify Your Preparation for the Permit Exam
Zutobi is another app that helps you learn all the basics and the theoretical aspects of driving a car. However, it takes a unique approach to help you learn. The app works like a game, and you level up while you learn each concept.
You can challenge your fellow mates using the app, and learn competitively using the leaderboard. You can select your country to prepare for the right exam – the USA, Australia, Germany, France, Sweden, or the UK. Each level summarizes what you need to know, and you can then assess your knowledge with a test.
The app also provides detailed statistics to visualize your progress and assess your knowledge. The app is free for the most part, but purchasing the Plus version unlocks 550+ exam-like questions for your preparation.

3. Dr. Parking 4: A Parking Simulator Game
No application or game on your Android device is a substitute for a real-life, parallel parking experience. That said, if you’re looking for a fun and engaging way to familiarize yourself with the concepts of parking, here’s a game called Dr. Parking 4.
The app offers several parking missions to choose from, and all you need to do is park the car inside the designated spot. Of course, by avoiding any obstacles in the way and not bumping into other vehicles. You can unlock a range of cars as you earn coins by passing each level, or you can make an in-app purchase to buy coins and a new car.
I also like how there’s an automatic transmission simulator in the game. You must change the gear to park the car, drive ahead, or reverse it. Graphics are neat and sharp, and game mechanics make it easy to drive around the car. Though Dr. Parking is a game, it helps you understand the importance of parking angles, finding a correct spot, and turning the car, among other things.

4. Dr Driving 2: A City Driving Simulator Game
Dr. Driving isn’t a game that’ll gear you up for a real-world driving experience. But will help you understand the traffic rules, and provide a basic sense of navigation as you drive around the city inside the game.
Amusingly, the moment you launch the game, it will ask you to fasten your virtual seat belts to start. Let’s hope this also helps you remember to do the same when you sitting in a real car. You have to obey traffic rules when driving your car in Dr. Driving.
That means pressing the brake pedal when starting your engine, shifting the car into the right gears, braking at red lights, indicator before making a turn, parking correctly in the allocated space, and so on. You get points for following on-screen instructions while driving and competing with friends for the top position on the leaderboard.
The graphics are sharp, yet the app size is under 20MB. There are many scenarios and missions to choose from, and each will help hone your driving skills. Dr. Driving 2 is free to use but comes with ads and in-app purchases for unlocking levels and upgrading cars.
