4 Ways to Fix Exception Access Violation Error on Windows 11

Fix 1: Use the Built-in Troubleshooter

The Hardware and Device troubleshooter can help you resolve hardware-related issues that trigger the Exception Access Violation error.

Step 1:Press theWindows + R shortcutto open the Run dialog box.

Step 2:Typemsdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnosticin the search box and clickOK.

Step 3:In the Hardware and Devices window, click onAdvanced.

Step 4:Check the box forApply repairs automaticallyand clickNext.

Step 5:The troubleshooter will scan your computer for issues and suggest a solution. Click theApply this fixoption to confirm.

Fix 2: Temporarily Turn Off User Account Control

When User Account Control is enabled, apps and tasks always require administrator permission to make changes to the system. However, this protective measure can interfere with trusted apps and cause errors.

Note:Proceed cautiously and disable user account control when you fully trust the application you’re trying to launch.

Step 1:Press theWindows keyto open the Start menu, typeControl Panelin the search bar, and clickEnter.

Step 2:In the Control Panel, chooseSystem and Security.

Step 3:ChooseChange User Account Control settingsunder the Security and Maintenance section.

Step 4:Drag the slider toNever notifyand clickOK.

After that, restart your computer and check if the problem persists.

Fix 3: Disable Data Execution Prevention (DEP)

Data Execution Prevention can interfere with legitimate applications and cause them to crash. Try disabling it to fix the issue.

Step 1:Press theWindows + R shortcutto open the Run dialog box, typesysdm.cplin the search bar, and clickOK.

Step 2:Switch to theAdvancedtab and click theSettingsbutton.

Step 3:In the Performance Options prompt, switch to theData Execution Preventiontab.

Step 4:Check theTurn on DEP for all programs and services except those I selectoption and clickAdd.

Step 5:Choose the executable causing the issue and clickOpen.

Step 6:ClickApplyandOKto save the changes.

Fix 4: Use the Compatibility Mode

The Exception Access Violation error will likely appear if the error-causing program isn’t compatible with Windows 11. The solution here is to run that program incompatibility mode.

Step 1:Right-clickon the error-causing application and chooseProperties.

Step 2:Switch to theCompatibilitytab. Click thedrop-downicon under Run this program in compatibility mode for and chooseWindows 8.

Step 3:Next, clickApplyandOKto save the changes.

If nothing works, run anSFC scanto fix the corrupted system files or re-install the app facing the issue.
