4 Ways to Fix Safari Closing Tabs on Its Own

Basic Fixes

Fix 1: Disable Auto-Close Tabs

There’s a feature in Safari thatautomatically closes tabsafter a certain time. You must disable that feature and allow only the manual closing of tabs.

Step 1:LaunchSafarion Mac. ClickSafariat the top-left corner and selectSettings.

Step 2:Move to theTabsmenu. Expand theAutomatically close tabsmenu and selectManually.

Restart Safari, and it shouldn’t auto-close tabs.

Fix 2: Disable iCloud Syncing in Safari

Sometimes, when you open the same tab in Safari on a different Apple device, the tab can get closed on your Mac.

Step 1:Click theApple logoin the Mac menu bar and openSystem Settings.

Step 2:Select youraccountand openiCloud.

Step 3:SelectShow all under Apps Using iCloud.

Step 4:Disablethe toggle for Safari.

Fix 3: Disable Private Relay on Mac

Apple’s iCloud Private Relay is a privacy add-on that hides your IP address andbrowsing activityfrom advertisers and trackers. It can also cause tabs to close in Safari.

Step 1:Go toSystem Settingson Mac, select yourprofile, and openiCloud.

Step 2:OpenPrivate Relayanddisablethe option from the following menu.

Fix 4: Clear Website Data

Just as a troubleshooting process, clear the website cache in Safari and relaunch the web page.

Step 1:Go toSafarisettings on your Mac.

Step 2:Move to thePrivacy taband clickManage Website Data.

Step 3:Remove Allwebsite cache and try again.
