Troubleshoot: Google Assistant Not Working After Reverting From Gemini to Assistant

If Google Assistant doesn’t work even after changing Gemini to Google Assistant, try the below-mentioned fixes:

Restart Phone:Due to a minor bug, your Android phone may think it’s still linked with Gemini and not Assistant. A simple restart should fix it.

Install Google Assistant App: If launching Google Assistant does not activate Gemini or Google Assistant, Google Assistant may have been uninstalled due to a bug. While there are rare chances of something like that, it’s not impossible. So,install the Assistant appmanually from the Google Play Store on your Android phone.

Clear Cache and Data of Google App:Next, tryclearing theGoogle app’s cache. To do so, go tosettings>Apps>Google>Storageand tap theClear cachebutton. After clearing the cache, restart your phone.

FAQs

  1. What happened to the assistant microphone button on the home screen?

Earlier, pressing the microphone button in the search bar on the home screen or the Google app would launch Google Assistant. But Google recently changed this behavior, and now the microphone icon acts as a voice typing button, a.k.a. the voice search feature. So, whatever you say will convert to text, and Google will search for it instead of taking it as a command for assistant.

  1. Can you use both Google Assistant and Gemini on your Android phone?

Unfortunately, no. If you use Google Assistant as your default assistant, you cannot use Gemini. And if you set Gemini as your default assistant, Google Assistant will not work. Basically, you can’t use Gemini without making it the default assistant.

  1. What to do if Gemini is not working on the lock screen?

Go to the Gemini app Settings as shown in method 4 and tap on ‘Google Assistant features in Gemini’. Enable the toggle for ‘Use Google Assistant features’ and tap on the Lock screen. Enable the toggle for ‘Responses on Lock Screen’.

  1. How to set Gemini as the default digital assistant on Android phones?

Use any of the above methods and select Gemini instead of Google Assistant.
