5 Ways to Fix Apps Duplicating on Android

Before you begin, restart your Android device andupdateit to the latest available version of Android. Further, try re-installing the app that is duplicating on your device.

Fix 1: Turn Off App Cloning

Some Android devices support app cloning, and if you have enabled the same — you will see a duplicate icon for your home screen. Therefore, you can try turning off the app cloning feature on your Android device.

Note: We have used a OnePlus device to demonstrate the procedure, however, if app cloning is available on your device, the steps will remain similar.

Step 1:Open theSettingsapp. Go toApps.

Step 2:Tap onApp Cloning. Select the app for which app cloning is turned on.

Step 3: Turn offApp Cloning.

Fix 2: Clear App Cache

Another effective fix is to clear the cache files. They can mess up with the icon files, showing more than one of them on the home screen of your phone.

Step 1: Long-pressthe Instagram app on the home screen and tap onApp info. Tap onClear Data.

Step 2:Tap onClear cacheand selectOKto confirm.

Fix 3: Change Home Launcher

If there’s a problem with the system app launcher you are using, install a third-party launcher likeNova Launcherand make it the default. Similarly, if there’s a problem with a third-party launcher, you can revert to the built-in app launcher.

Step 1:OpenSettings > Apps > Default Apps > Hope app.

Step 2:Change the default home app. If you’re using a Pixel device, the Pixel Launcher is the default launcher.

Fix 4: Clear Android Launcher Cache

Android launcher appsare responsible for how the home screen andapp drawerwork and behave. However, if these third-party app launchers are affected by a bug, they may cause the problem of app icon duplication. Clearing the launcher cache is one way to fix the problem.

Step 1:OpenSettings > Apps, and select the launcher from the list of apps.

Step 2:Tap onStorage Usageand clear the cache.

Fix 5: Reset Android Device

When none of the above methods work, factory reset your Android phone. Doing this will fix any misconfiguration causing the problem.

However, this will reset all the preferences and settings on your device and remove any saved Bluetooth devices, Wi-Fi passwords, and so on.

Go toSettings > Back up and reset > Reset Phoneand reset all the settings.
