5 Ways to Fix Camera Not Working on Discord

Fix 1: Enable Camera Access for Discord

It’s a good idea to ensure that Discord has the necessary permission to access the camera on your PC. Here’s how to check.

Step 1:Press theWindows key + Ito open the Settings app and head toPrivacy & security > Camera.

Step 2:Turn on the toggle next toCamera access.

Step 3:Enable the toggle next toLet desktop apps access your camera.

Fix 2: Disable Hardware Acceleration in Discord

Enabling hardware acceleration can also cause the camera feed to keep freezing in Discord. You can try disabling the hardware acceleration feature in Discord temporarily to see if that fixes the problem.

Step 1:Launch the Discord app and click thegear iconin the bottom left corner.

Step 2:Navigate to theAdvancedtab and turn off theHardware Accelerationoption on your right.

Fix 3: Run the Camera Troubleshooter

If Discord is still unable to detect your webcam, you can use the camera troubleshooter on Windows and allow it to identify and resolve any issues. Here’s how.

Step 1:Click the search icon on the taskbar, type introubleshoot settings, and pressEnter.

Step 2:Go toOther troubleshooters.

Step 3:Click theRunbutton next to Camera.

Fix 4: Update or Reinstall Drivers

Corrupted or outdated camera driverscan also cause the Discord camera to stop working. To fix this, try updating the camera drivers on your PC using these steps:

Step 1:Press theWindows key + Sto access the search menu, type indevice manager, and pressEnter.

Step 2:ExpandCameras, right-click on your webcam, and select theUpdate driveroption.

If the problem persists, follow the same steps as above anduninstallthe camera driver. Once removed,rebootyour PC, and Windows will automatically install them again.

Fix 5: Reinstall the Discord App

It’s possible that Discord is unable to use the camera due to corrupt or missing app files. In that case, your best option is to uninstall the Discord app and reinstall it. Here’s how you can go about it.

Step 1:Press theWindows key + Rto launch the Run dialog box. Type in%AppData%and pressEnter.

Step 2:In the File Explorer window that opens, select theDiscordfolder and click thetrash iconat the top to delete it.

Step 3:Click the search icon on the taskbar, type inDiscord, and selectUninstall.

Once removed, open the Microsoft Store todownload Discordagain.
