5 Ways to Fix Discord Lag on Windows and Mac

Basic Fixes
Fix 1: Turn off Hardware Acceleration
Active hardware acceleration could be a factor in Discord’s lag on your Windows or Mac. We suggest you turn this off from Discord settings.
Step 1:Launch theDiscordapp on your desktop. Then, click on theSettingsicon.
Step 2:TapVoice & Videoon the left > disableHardware Acceleration.
Now, restart Discord and try using the app.
Fix 2: Clear Discord Cache
While a cache is beneficial for smoother operations, it can also cause app lag. Therefore, if your Discord app lags, clear the cache and try again. Here’s how.
On Windows
Step 1:OpenFile Exploreron Windows and head to the following path.
Step 2:Open theDiscordfolder.
Step 3:SelectCache,Code cache, andGPUCachefolders and delete them.
Now, empty the Recycle Bin and try again.
On Mac
Step 1:LaunchFinderand press theCommand + Shift + Gkeyboard shortcut. Then, tapGo to Folder.
Step 2:Type the following command and hit theReturnkey.
Step 3:Select and deleteCache,Code Cache, andGPUCache.

Fix 3: Enable Reduced Motion
The Reduced Motion option reduces the animations throughout Discord, making it faster. Here’s how to enable reduced motion.
Step 1:OpenDiscord. Then, tap on theSettingsicon.
Step 2:SelectAccessibilityon the left pane. Then, uncheckEnable the Reduced Motion.
Fix 4: Reset Voice Settings
Incorrect Discord voice settings could cause lags in the app. Therefore, reset voice settings on the Discord desktop to fix this.
Step 1:OpenDiscord> go toDiscord Settings>Voice & Video.
Step 2:Scroll down and hitReset Voice Settings.
Fix 5: Check Power Settings (Windows only)
Most Windows laptops have different performance modes to get the best out of your laptop’s CPU and battery. For intensive tasks, you can enable the high-performance mode on your laptop and try using Discord.
Step 1:Click on theBattery iconin the Windows taskbar.
Step 2:ExpandPowermodeand selectBest performance.
