5 Ways to Fix Google Chrome Showing Untitled Blank Page

Fix 1: Change on Startup Page

Chrome allows you to choose what page you want to see when you open the browser. So, if you accidentally have a blank page on startup, Chrome will show an untitled blank page when you open the browser. You can use Chrome settings to change it as per your preference. Here’s how.

Step 1:OpenChromeand click on thethree-dot icon. Click onSettings.

Step 2:Go toOn startupfrom the sidebar and selectOpen the New Tab page.

You can also choose any other option to see a specific page on Chrome at startup.

Fix 2: Clear Chrome Cache

Google Chrome collects cache data in the background to open new tabs instantly. However, this data increases in size and can cause Chrome to display blank pages instead over time. When this happens, clear the Chrome cache and other browsing data. Follow the below steps to do it.

Step 1:OpenChrome→three-dot icon. Click onDelete browsing data.

Step 2:Select the relevantoptionsand click onDelete data. Confirm the same if prompted.

Fix 3: Turn off Chrome Extensions

While extensions help add functionality to your browser, they can hijack certain browser functions. This can also be why Chrome is showing a blank page. So, turn off any recently added Chrome extensions and see if this fixes the issue. Here’s how.

Step 1:OpenChrome→three-dot icon. Go toExtensionsand click onManage Extensions.

Step 2:Turn off the toggle for therelevant extensions.

Tip:If you have identified the rogue extensions,permanently remove them from Chrome.

Fix 4: Disable Hardware Acceleration

Hardware acceleration helps speed up your browser functions by offloading browser tasks. However, this can also cause certain browser features to not work properly, including pages showing as blank. So, disable hardware acceleration for Chrome and try loading the page again. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1:OpenChrome→three-dot icon→Settings. Go toSystemfrom the left sidebar.

Step 2:Turn off theUse graphics acceleration when availabletoggle.

Fix 5: Reset Google Chrome

Chrome comes with built-in options to reset all browser settings. This can help you disable all extensions, delete custom Chrome settings, and more while keeping your data intact. Use this option if you’re still getting a blank page in Chrome but need help figuring out why. Here’s how.

Step 1:OpenChrome→three-dot icon→Settings. Go toReset settingsfrom the sidebar.

Step 2:Here, click onRestore settings to their original defaults.

Step 3:Click onReset settingswhen prompted.

Once done, restart Chrome. Then, use the browser for a while and try opening different pages to see if the issue has been fixed.
