5 Ways to Fix Microsoft Excel Not Saving Changes on Windows

Fix 1: Repair Files From File Explorer
Step 1:Open theMicrosoft Excel appon your computer.
Step 2:SelectFileat the top-right corner > selectOpen.
Step 3:Find an Excel file from your computer and expand theOpenmenu.
Step 4:SelectOpen and Repairand start making changes.
Fix 2: Disable Read-Only Permission
Sometimes, you need to disable the read-only permission from file properties for it to save changes.
Step 1:Press theWindows key + Ekeyboard shortcut to launch the File Explorer app on your Windows 11 computer.
Step 2:Find anExcel fileand right-click on it. OpenProperties.
Step 3:Uncheck theRead-onlybox > clickApply> hitOK.
Fix 3: Disable Add-ons
If Excel runs fine in Safe mode, it confirms that the issue is with one of the installed add-ons.
Step 1:Open anExcel fileon your PC > selectFile.
Step 2:Go toMore> chooseOptions.
Step 3:SelectAdd-ins> hitGobeside the Manage menu.
Step 4:Turn off the checkmark besideadd-ins> hitOK.

Fix 4: Repair Office
Step 1:Click theWindows + I keyboard shortcutto open the Settings app.
Step 2:SelectAppsfrom the left sidebar >Installed Appsfrom the right pane.
Step 3:Scroll to Microsoft 365 > click thethree horizontal dotsmenu beside it > selectModify.
Step 4:Click the radio button besideQuick Repair> selectRepair.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the repair process.
Fix 5: Manually Save a Copy Offline
Step 1:Open a troubling Excel file > hit theFilemenu at the top left corner.
Step 2:SelectSave a Copy.
Step 3:Savethe Excel file to a relevant folder.
