Basic Fixes

Fix 1: Manually Forget the Wi-Fi Network and Reconnect

Existing issues with your Wi-Fi connection canfreeze your Android phoneat the ‘Obtaining IP address’ message. Forget the Wi-Fi network and reconnect to solve the issue.

Step 1:Open Androidsettings, selectNetwork & internet, and tapWi-Fi.

Fix 2: Enable DHCP Settings in Router

Fix 3: Connect Using a Static IP Address

If your Android phone can’t automatically obtain an IP address, assign it a static IP address to connect to the Wi-Fi network.

Step 1:Open AndroidSettings, select theWi-Fi network, and tapAdvanced options.

Step 2:SelectIP settingsand set it toStatic. Enter the staticIP detailsand tapConnectto establish the connection.

Fix 4: Factory Reset Your Wi-Fi Router

Incorrect router settings can prevent your Android phone from connecting to Wi-Fi, causing the ‘Obtaining IP address’ issue. Reset your router to its factory defaults to remove misconfigurations.

Tip:Press the physicalResetbutton on the back of your router for 5-7 seconds to factory reset it.

Step 1:Open your router admin page and selectAdministration.

Step 2:Scroll down and clickResetnext to Reset Factory Settings. Your router will automatically reboot to restore its factory defaults.

Fix 5: Reset Network Settings

If resetting the router doesn’t help,reset all network settingson your Android phone to restore the Wi-Fi connectivity.

Step 1:SelectSystemunder Android Settings and tapReset options.

Step 2:TapReset Wi-Fi, mobile network & Bluetooth, and selectReset settings. Enter your device passcode when prompted to confirm.
