The power-packed WWDC 24′ main event featured the launch of iOS 18 – which primarily focused on bringing some of the much-awaited customization features. As always – there’s also a brand-new wallpaper that you can quickly get your hands on!

The new light mode wallpaper features a gradient background of a peachy-pink hue that blends smoothly into a light yellow, and to a cool, teal-blue color at the bottom.

There’s a dark mode wallpaper as well, where the colors transition from a dark blue at the bottom right to a lighter, translucent blue near the center, blending into a warm pinkish-red hue towards the top left.

We’ve seen more vivid default wallpapers in theprevious editions, but if you like visually soothing colors, this one’s for you.

Home Screen Customization: Android Users Can’t Poke Fun at iPhone Anymore

You can now re-arrange apps as per your preference, and place them anywhere on the screen. Further, there’s also a new app icon design with a dark theme, and you can also customize colors and accents for the icons based on your wallpaper.

Finally – the long-awaited feature to hide apps from the home screen is also here on iOS 18. You can go to the App Library, and access the hidden apps folder with FaceID.

Control Center: Take Control of How You Can Control Your iPhone

The Control Center in iOS 18 is redesigned to include different control screens that are easily accessible with a single swipe down. The icons are now updated with a visual overhaul as well.

Additionally, a new Controls Gallery allows you to customize controls by displaying all available options, including those from favorite apps. You now have the flexibility to rearrange and resize controls, or even create custom control groups for a more personalized experience.

Photos App: A Scrapbook for All of Your Memories

The Photos app in iOS 18 now automatically categorizes images by topics such as recent days, trips, people, and pets. You can easily find photos using various filters – and you can now hide screenshots while viewing all the images in the app.

There’s also a new carousel view that highlights your best content in a visually appealing format that is updated daily. While it does borrow several cues from the Google Photos app – it is indeed a refreshing change!

iMessage: RCS Is Finally Here

iMessage finally supports RCS on iOS 18 which means you can send a receive texts to Android devices using the internet. You can now react to a message using an emoji of your choice, schedule text messages, add animated effects, and use bold, italics, and strikethrough formats for texts.

The developer beta version is available after the event, the public beta will be released in July and the stable version will be available in September along with the new iPhones.

Unless you need the developer beta for testing purposes – we recommend against installing it. That said, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates > Select iOS 18 Developer Beta and install the update.
