How to Add Location Details to Photos on Android

Adding location information to your photos is a straightforward process. You can useGoogle Photos or the Gallery appprovided by your phone’s manufacturer.

Method 1: Add or Edit Location Details to Photos in the Google Photos App

If your smartphone runs stock Android, Google Photos is likely your default gallery app. In that case, follow these steps to add location details to photos on your Android device.

Step 1:Open theGoogle Photosapp and select the photo to which you want to add location information.

Step 2:Tap thethree-dot menu iconin the top right corner. Under theDetailssection, tapAdd a locationfrom the menu that pops up.

Note:You can only add location data to photos that are backed up using Google Photos.

Step 3:Type in thename of the locationand select from the suggested options.

If want to add location details to multiple photos or edit the location information, use these steps:

Step 1:In the Google Photos app, select multiple photos, and tap theEdit locationoption at the bottom.

Step 2:Enter thename of the locationand select from the available options.

Several Android phones come with a dedicated Gallery app for viewing photos and videos. If you have such an app, you can follow these steps to add location details to photos using the Gallery:

Step 1:Launch theGalleryapp on your phone and open the photo to which you want to add location data.

Step 2:Tap thethree-dot menu iconin the bottom right corner and selectDetails.

Step 3:Select theEditoption and tap theplus iconnext toNo location information.

Step 4:In the map view, you can either manually drop a pin on the location or enter the name of the place in the search box. Then, tap onDoneat the bottom.

Step 5:HitSaveto confirm.

If you want to add location details to multiple photos at once or edit the existing details, the process is similar. Here are the steps you can follow.

Step 1:In theGalleryapp, select the photos to which you want to add location details. Tap thethree-dot menu iconat the bottom-right corner and selectEdit location.

Step 2:In the map view, search for the location you want to add and then tapDoneat the bottom.

How to Configure Your Android to Add Location Details to Photos Automatically

Adding location details to photos manually is a tedious task. Thankfully, you can configure theCamera app on your Androidto automatically add location details to photos as you take them. Here’s how:

Step 1:Open the Camera app on your phone and tap thegear-shaped iconto open it.

Step 2:Enable the toggle next toLocation tags.
