Fix 1: Check the Requirements

First things first. There arecertain requirementsor basic conditions for the Customize Chrome button to show up. These are:

Fix 2: Make Google the Default Search Engine in Chrome

Another important condition is that Google must be your default search engine in the Chrome browser. Ifit’s something else, the Customize Chrome button will not show.

Step 1: In the Chrome browser, click on thethree-dot iconat the top > selectSettings.

Step 2:Go toSearch Engine> click onChange> selectGoogle. If you have already selected Google as the default search engine, change it to something else, restart the Chrome browser, and change the search engine back to Google.

Fix 2: Sign Into Your Google Account

Next, set up a profile in Google Chrome and sign into your Google account if you haven’t already. To do so, click on theaccount picture iconat the top-right corner > click on theTurn on Syncbutton > sign into yourGoogle account.

Fix 3: Log Out of Chrome

If you are already signed into your Google account, sign out from Chrome. For that, click on theaccount picture iconat the top > selectSync is on> click onTurn off>profile picture icon> selectSign out. Restart your computer and sign in again.

Fix 4: Remove Any New Tab Page Extension

There’s also a chance that thenew tab page has been hijackedby an extension. For instance, I was using an extension that redirected the new tab page to something like a Google page. And I was left wondering why I don’t have the Customize Chrome button.

To fix it, check your list of extensions and disable any that control the new tab page as shown below:

Step 1: Click on theExtensions iconat the top-right corner of the Chrome browser.

Step 2:Then, click on thethree-dot iconnext to the extension and selectManage extension.

Step 3:Turn off the toggle forOn.

Step 4:Restartthe Chrome browser and open the new tab page to see the Customize Chrome button.

Fix 5: Reset Chrome Settings

Finally, if nothing seems to bring back the Customize Chrome button, try resetting Chrome. Please note that doing so will delete the Chrome shortcuts, disable extensions, and delete cookies and temporary site dataamong other things.

Go toChrome Settings > Reset Settings > Reset settings to their original defaultsto reset Chrome.
