Whilechanging your name and username on Facebookis not that challenging, it comes with a few rules and regulations. These rules are placed to maintain the authenticity and integrity of user profiles. So, even though troublesome at times, they are for our benefit.

Is There an Official Way to Remove Your Last Name on Facebook

Yes, you canfill up a formto request Facebook for a mononym account. However, the platform will only make an exception if you convince them that you don’t have a surname. If Facebook agrees, you can use just your first name for your Facebook profile.

How Do I Hide My Last Name on Facebook

As mentioned earlier, Facebook doesn’t allow users not to have a last name on their Facebook profiles. But we are smart enough to find an easy loophole; let’s implement it.

Note:The method to change or hide the last name is the same; just the last few steps vary.

Remove or Hide Your Last Name From Facebook Web

Step 1: Launch yourbrowserand log in to yourFacebook account.

Step 2: Tap theprofile imagefrom the top-right corner.

Step 3: SelectSettings & privacyand thenSettings.

Step 4: Here, clickAccounts Center from the left sidebar.

Step 5: Select yourFacebook profile.

Step 6: Next, clickName.

Step 7: Now,

Step 8: ClickReview Change.

Step 9: Select thename formatyou prefer and clickDone.

Step 10: You’ll see the change reflected in your user name immediately.

Change Facebook Name to First Name on Mobile App

Step 1: Open theFacebook app→ tap thethree-line iconfrom the bottom (iOS) or top (Android).

Step 2: TapSettings & Privacyand thenSettings.

Step 3: TapAccounts Centerfrom the top of the page.

Step 4: Select theFacebook Profileto change its name.

Step 5: TapNameand do one of the following,

Step 7: Choose a preferredname formatand tapDone.

Use VPN to Change Name on Facebook Without a Surname

If the above method doesn’t work for you, we also have a slightly complicated method to recommend. Basically, Facebook accepts exceptions to the last name rule for people of a particular region or religion who just use their first name.

So, users can use a trusted VPN or proxy browser settings to change their location to Indonesia and fool Facebook into allowing them to remove their last name.

Once the VPN connection is established and your location is successfully masked, follow the steps mentioned above to change the name.

Note: Previously, users have also hidden their last name by changing the language settings to Tamil. However, the method doesn’t work anymore.
