Method 1: Using the Fire TV Remote App
If your remote isn’t handy or you have lost it, you can control your Fire TV with its Android and iOS apps. The only requirement is that you be on the same Wi-Fi network.
Step 1:Install the app on youriPhoneorAndroidphone. Once installed, tap on yourFire TV Stick nameand enter a4-digit codeto connect.
Step 2:Use the app to navigate the Fire TV Stick. Go toSettings > Network. Here, connect to a different network.
The above method requires you to be on the same Wi-Fi network. But what if you are traveling and have forgotten your remote at home? Well, you can still control it using the below three methods.
Method 2: Connect Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Remote App Using Hotspot
When you are in a hotel or a place with a different Wi-Fi network and the Fire TV remote isn’t available, you cannot change the Wi-Fi even with the app as it’s registered with the old Wi-Fi. So, the trick is to get the Fire TV Stick and the app on the same network. Here, we will combine the above method with a new trick.
For that, we will connect Fire TV Stick to a new Wi-Fi with the same SSID and password as the old network. That will fool it into believing that it’s the old network and it will connect automatically. You can then use the app to change the Wi-Fi. We are using an iPhone and Android phone to show you the steps.
Step 1: On the first phone, create a hotspot network by going toSettings > Network and Internet > Hotspot and tethering > Wi-Fi hotspot > enable it.
Step 2:Turn on your TV andconnect your Fire TV Stickto the hotspot.
Step 3:Install theFire TV appon the second phone and connect it to the newly created hotspot.
Step 4:Now that both Fire TV and the app are on the same Wi-Fi, use the Fire TV app to navigate toSettings > Networkto update Wi-Fi.
Step 5:Once your Fire TV is connected to the new Wi-Fi network, turn off the hotspoton your phone. Then, connect the first phoneto the new Wi-Fi network anduse the Fire TV appto control and navigate your Fire TV Stick.

Method 3: Enable HDMI-CEC to Use Your TV Remote
Many users don’t know they can control the Fire TV Stick with their TV remote and the TV with their Fire TV Stick Remote. If you are also surprised, meet the HDMI-CEC feature. The main idea behind this is to let users control their TV and HDMI-connected devices with a single remote.
If your TV supports HDMI-CEC, you can use its regular remote to control your Fire TV Stick and change the Wi-Fi. First, enable the HDMI-CEC setting on your TV. Since brands call the feature by different names and it’s present in different locations, check your TV manual to find the setting.
OpenSettings > Display and Sounds > HDMI CEC Device Control> select it to enable it.
Method 4: Connect Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse
Similar to pairing your remote orBluetooth headphones, you can pair a keyboard and mouse to navigate and change your Wi-Fi settings.
Enable your keyboard or mouse for pairing > go toSettingson your Fire TV home page >Controllers and Bluetooth devices > Other Bluetooth Devices > Add Bluetooth Devices. Now, follow the on-screen instructions.
If your friend or a family member has a Fire TV Stick, use their remote to change the Wi-Fi. To do so, pair their remote by pressing the Home button for 20-40 seconds until you see the pairing confirmation message.
