How to Change YouTube Language (Web and Mobile App)

Recently,an update for Google Chromechanged the default language of the YouTube website for some weird reason. All the text on YouTube appeared in Hindi while I had set English as my default language. I spotted that while dealing with theChrome’s misleading automatic login issue.

I noticed that even the YouTube mobile site displays text in Hindi at times. If you are facing this issue as well, you have come to the right place. Here we will tell you how to change YouTube language.

Before we begin, it’s important to know that changing YouTube language will not affect the recommended or trending videos. They vary based on your location unless you reside in a country such as India where language settings play an vital role for trending or the videos shown on your home screen.

Change YouTube Language on Web

Signed in

To change the language when you are logged in, follow these steps:

Step 1:Open YouTube in your browser.

Step 2: Click on the profile picture icon at the top-right corner. From the menu, select Language from the drop-down list.

Step 3:Select the language of your choice.

Signed Out

If you aren’t signed in to YouTube, follow these steps to change the language:

Step 1: Open the YouTube website.

Step 2:Tap on the three-dot icon at the top-right corner and select Language from the menu. It is usually the second option from the top.

Step 3:Then select the language that you want to use.

Change Language on YouTube Mobile Site

Here’s the thing. If I open the YouTube website directly on my mobile, the language is English but if I open a YouTubelink from Instagramor some other app, the titles are in Hindi.

The steps mentioned below will work in both scenarios. Here’s what you need to do.

Step 1:On the YouTube mobile website, tap the three-dot icon at the top-right corner. From the pop-up menu, select Settings.

Step 2:On the next screen, tap on Language. Then choose the language.

Change YouTube Language on Android and iOS

If you want to change the text language on YouTube mobile apps, there is no dedicated option for that. You need to change the device language to do so as most of the apps follow the language of your mobile phone.

Change Device Language on Android

Step 1:Open device Settings and go to System.

Step 2:Tap on Languages & input followed by Languages.

Step 3:Select the language of your choice and make sure to keep it at the top position.

Change Device Language on iPhone and iPad

Step 1:Open device Settings on your iPhone or iPad and tap on General.

Step 2: Tap on Language & region. Then select Device language.

Step 3: Finally, select the language of your choice and confirm the selection on the pop up that appears.

To change the trending and recommended videos on YouTube, you need to change your location in the YouTube app.

Change Location on Android

Step 1:Open the YouTube app on your device and tap on the profile picture icon at the top.

Step 2:Select Settings and go to General.

Step 3: Scroll down and tap on Location. Here set the location as per your preference.

Change Location on iPhone and iPad

Step 1:Open the YouTube app on your iOS device and tap on the profile icon.

Step 2:Go to Settings and tap on Location.

Step 3:Select the country of your choice.

Step 1:Open YouTube in a browser on your PC.

Step 2:Tap on the profile picture icon. From the menu, select Location. Then choose the country.

Bonus Tip: Enable Dark Mode

So you noticed YouTube’s dark theme in the screenshots posted earlier. Well, YouTube recently launched the much-awaited dark mode, and it isavailable in Google Chromeas well. It’s very easy to switch YouTube to dark mode on all platforms.

Dark Mode on Android

On the YouTube mobile app, tap the profile picture icon on the home screen. Then go to Settings > General. Enable Dark theme.

Dark Mode on iOS

Tap the profile picture icon at the top-right corner on the home screen of the YouTube app on your iPhone or iPad. Then tap on Settings and enable Dark theme.

Dark Mode on Web

On the YouTube website, click on the profile picture at the top to open the menu. Then tap on Dark Theme and turn the toggle on to enable it.
