How to Clean up Duplicate Photos on iPhone

Method 1: Use the Duplicates Feature in the Photos App
Finding and deleting duplicate photos individually on your iPhone can be a tough nut to crack. Thankfully, iOS 16 introduced a ‘Duplicates’ feature in the Photos app to help you clean or merge all duplicate photos in one go.
Step 1:Open the Photos app, selectAlbumsfrom the bottom, and tapDuplicatesunder ‘Utilities’.
Note:If you can’t find the Duplicate album in the Photos app, lock your iPhone and connect it to a power source to let it index your photo library.
Step 2:TapSelectat the top right corner and mark all duplicate photos. Remove them using theTrash iconat the bottom right.
Step 3:Alternatively, tapSelect Allat the top left corner, and selectMergeto let iOS combine the highest quality photo versions and remove its duplicates. You can find the deleted duplicates in the ‘Recently Deleted’ album.
Method 2: Clean up Duplicate Photos Using Remo Duplicate Photos Remover
If you can’t find photos in the Duplicates album or iOS is taking too long to index photos, use the Remo Duplicate Photos Remover app to identify and clean duplicates on your iPhone.
Step 1:Install theRemo Duplicate Photos Removerfrom the App Store. Open the app, and tapAllow Full Accessto grant it your photo library access.
Step 2:TapScanand wait a few seconds to let it identify duplicates.
Step 3:Mark the duplicate photos you wish to remove and tap theTrash iconat the bottom right. Confirm it usingDeletewhen prompted to move them to the ‘Recently Deleted’ album.
Tip:Besides cleaning duplicates, you can remove similar photos using the ‘Similar’ tab in the Remo Duplicate Photos Remover app.
Step 4:To remove deleted duplicates permanently from your iPhone, open theRecently Deletedalbum under Utilities in the Photos app and mark all photos.
Step 5:Tap thethree-dot menuat the bottom right, and selectDelete.
