How to Import Styles from Another Word Document

Import Styles from Another Word Document

You can import styles via the Developer tab in Microsoft Word. However, this option is not enabled by default, so you must first enable it before importing. If it is enabled, jump to the next section to import styles.

Enable Developer Tab

Step 1:Launch Microsoft Word.

Step 2:Open your desired document.

Step 3:On the Microsoft Word Ribbon, click on theFiletab.

Step 4:Scroll to the bottom of the File menu and click onMoreorOptionsto reveal a collapsed menu.

Step 5:ClickOptionsfrom the menu.

Step 6:From the Word Options pop-up window, clickCustomize Ribbonfrom the left sidebar.

Step 7:Scroll through theCustomize the Ribbontable options and select the tick box besideDeveloper.

Step 8:ClickOKto save your changes. The Developer tab will show up on your Ribbon.

Import Styles

With the Developer tab visible on your Ribbon, you can access the Organizer dialog box to import Styles. Here’s how to do so:

Step 1:On the Word Ribbon, click theDevelopertab.

Step 2:Within theTemplatesgroup, clickDocument Templates. This will launch the Templates and Add-ins dialog box.

Step 3:Click theOrganizerbutton at the bottom left of the Templates and Add-ins dialog box to launch the Organizer dialog box.

Step 4:On the Organizer dialog box, move your cursor to the right side classified asIn Normal.dotm:

Step 5:Click theClose Filebutton under theIn Normal.dotm:group.

Step 6:Click theOpen Filebutton under theIn Normal.dotm:group.

Step 7:From the File Library, navigate to the location of the file from which you wish to import styles.

Step 8:At the bottom right of the File Library dialog box, click theFile Typedrop-down menu and selectAll Files. This is important as, by default, the file library may only show documents saved as templates.

Step 9:Select the file with the styles you want to import and clickOpen. The document name and features will now appear under the document name on the right side of the Organizer.

Step 10:Under the file’s name, scroll through the features of the document shown and click on the Style you would like to copy.

Step 11:Click theCopybutton to import the selected style to your document.

Step 12:After selecting the imported styles, clickCloseat the bottom of the dialog box.

In Microsoft Word, apart from using personalized Styles, you can alsouse custom color sets. If the default color sets in Microsoft Word do not work, you can create yours and save it for future use.
