How to Send Live Photos as GIFs on WhatsApp

Arshmeet has been a tech tinkerer since childhood, but she realized her love for technology and writing about 5 years ago. Since then, she has been honing her skills and helping people figure out how things work, troubleshoot problems, choose the right app and products, and dig deep into the new and old concepts of technology. She is a self-professed Apple Enthusiast who loves debating what’s good and what’s not. It is her passion for finding techniques, hacks, apps, and products that make everyday life simpler.

Method 1. Send Live Photos as GIFs From WhatsApp

You can convert the Live Photos to GIFs beforehand and then share them on WhatsApp as usual, or you can use the following method to let WhatsApp do all the work.

Step 1:LaunchWhatsAppon your iPhone. Open thechatto share Live Photos.

Step 2:Tap theplus (+) buttonat the bottom left corner. SelectPhotosfrom the menu.

Step 3:Find the Live Photo you want to share. Long-press the photos and chooseSelect as GIF.

Step 4:Trim or edit the GIF as desired. Tap theSend buttonto send the Live Photo as a GIF.

The recipient will see the Live Photo as a GIF.

While this method is cool, it has one basic limitation – you can only do this for one photo at a time. That means if you want to share a bunch of Live Photos as GIFs, you must select them one by one, convert them to GIFs, and share them on WhatsApp; or you can try the next method.

Tip: Google Pixel offers a similar feature to Live Photos, i.e., Motion Photos. If you want to know how toshare Motion Photos from Google Pixel, follow the link.

Method 2. Send Live Photos as GIFs From the Photos App

You can also share Live Photos as GIFs directly from the Photos app. Thankfully, it’s a native feature, and you don’t need to use any extensions for the Photos app or third-party image editors.

Step 1:Launch thePhotos appon your iPhone. Select theLive Photoyou want to share.

Step 2:Tap thedrop-down menufrom the top-left corner. Select the Loop or the Bounce option.

Step 3:Once done, tap theShare buttonat the bottom left.

Step 4:In the Share Sheet, tapWhatsApp→ select thechat. TapSendto share the GIF.

Although you can’t batch convert Live Photos to Loop or Bounce, you can at least attach and WhatsApp them together once all are converted to GIFs.
