How to Stop LinkedIn from Training AI on Your Data
My journey with technology has been one of trial and error, but each challenge has taught me how to solve problems efficiently. Now, I channel that expertise into creating straightforward, practical guides that make even the most intimidating devices accessible to everyone.
AI is a major force in the tech world at the moment, and that brings both plus points and downsides. On the one hand, it’s a quite miraculous form of tech, capable of delivering positive, impactful changes in many industries. On the other hand, some of the ways in which AI is being used are somewhat underhand and concerning.
Many companies, for example, have started using their own customer or user data in order to train AI models, sometimes without the express consent or awareness of those users. LinkedIn is one of those companies. It recently started doing this, and many users aren’t actually aware of it. So, let’s see how to stop LinkedIn from training AI on your data.
How to Stop LinkedIn from Training AI on Your Data on Desktop
LinkedIn has automatically activated AI training for many of its users. However, you can disable this in just a few seconds, via your account settings menu. Here’s how it’s done on desktop devices.
Step 1.Open LinkedIn and navigate to the “Settings & Privacy” menu. You can find this by clicking on the “Me” button at the top of your screen.
Step 2.In the “Settings” menu, find the “Data privacy” option on the left side, and click it.
Step 3.In the section entitled “How LinkedIn uses your data,” you should see a section labeled “Data for Generative AI Improvement.” By default for many users, this will be switched “On.” Click on it.
Step 4.Turn the “Data for Generative AI Improvement” setting to the “Off” position. Once you’ve done that, you shouldn’t have to worry about LinkedIn using your data for AI training anymore.
Note:The “Data for Generative AI Improvement” setting may not appear in your “Data Privacy” settings, as it’s only used in certain regions, like the U.S. If you’re in Europe or some other part of the world and don’t see the setting, you don’t need to worry – if it’s not there, that means that LinkedIn is not using your data for AI purposes.
How to Stop LinkedIn from Training AI on Your Data on Mobile
You can also disable this AI training setting via the LinkedIn mobile app, in much the same way as the desktop method.
Step 1.Open the LinkedIn app and tap on your profile picture in the top-left corner to open up the menu.
Step 2.Tap on the “Settings” icon at the bottom of the menu (shaped like a gear) to access the “Settings.”
Step 3.Tap on “Data Privacy” to access this menu, and then scroll through to look for the “Data for Generative AI Improvement” setting. You can then tap that and switch it to the “Off” position. If you don’t see it, there’s no need to worry, and if it’s already “Off” then you can just leave it that way.
