Are you getting weird and unrelated ‘News for you’ notifications on Twitter? You are not alone. That’s because Twitter recently launchednew news-related features. One of them includes sending push notifications to users about news based on their interest. However, these alerts are annoying and aren’t personalized at all (as of now).

For instance, some people have been receiving news notifications about football when they haven’t watched a singlefootball matchin their lives. While Twitter calls these notifications ‘News for you’, in reality they don’t seem they are actually for us.

If you are also bothered by these updates, you can turn them off in the Twitter settings. Here’s what you need to do.

Disable News For You Notifications

Step 1:Open the Twitter app and tap the profile picture icon at the top-left corner. The navigation drawer will open. Alternatively, swipe right from the left edge of the screen.

Step 2:In the navigation drawer, tap on Settings and privacy. On the next screen, tap on Notifications.

Step 3:Under Notifications, tap on Push notifications.

Step 4:Scroll down in Push notifications and you will see the News from twitter heading. Here you will find the News option. Uncheck it to turn off the annoying News for you notifications.

In case of iPhone, you need to set the News slider to off.

That’s all you need to do to turn off this irritating alert. However, if you are still receiving News for you notifications, here are some quick fixes that might resolve the issue.

Troubleshoot

1. Restart Device

Sometimes just a simple reboot of the device helps fix major issues. So we would suggest you restart your phone, be it an Android device or iPhone.

2. Clear Cache (Android)

If you are an Android user, clearing cachecan also help with the notification issue. All you need to do is clear the cache for the Twitter app.

Here are the steps to do the same.

Step 1:Open device Settings and go to Apps/Apps & notifications/App Manager.

Step 2:Look for the Twitter app under All apps. Tap on it. On the App info screen, tap on Storage.

Step 3:You will find two buttons: Clear storage and Clear cache. Tap on the second one.

Step 4:Go back and tap on the Force stop button. That’s all. We hope Twitter doesn’t bother you with these notifications now.

3. Log out From the App

If you are receiving the notifications even after following the above two solutions, log out from the app. To do so, follow the steps.

Step 1: Tap on the profile picture icon to open the navigation drawer or swipe right. Then tap on Settings and privacy.

Step 2:Tap on Account. On the next screen, scroll down and tap on Log out. Then, log in again.

Bonus Notification Tips

Tip 1: Turn Off Twitter Recommendations

Apart from the News for you notifications, Twitter also sends Popular in your network and Highlights notifications. If you have never subscribed to them, these are quite irksome too. So it’s better to turn them off.

In order to do that, under the Push notification settings, look for Popular in your network and Highlights. Tap on them to disable them.

Tip 2: Use Advanced Filters

Toenhance your Twitter experiencefurther, you can mute notifications based on a wide variety of filters. For instance, you can mute notifications from people who haven’t confirmed their email address or who have a default profile photo. These profiles are usually trolls and it helps toeliminate such notifications.

To apply the notification filter, follow these steps:

Step 1:Open the Twitter app and tap on the profile picture icon. From the navigation drawer, choose Settings and privacy.

Step 2:Tap on Notifications followed by Advanced filters.

Step 3:Here you will get multiple filters. Check the box next to the filter that you want to apply. Once you do that, you will not receive notifications from such profiles.

Tip 3: Show Unread Notification Count Badge

Similar to theunread count badge on app iconson the home screen, Twitter also displays a notification badge inside the Twitter app. If it isn’t enabled, you will see a blue dot on the notification tab. However, if enabled, the notification tab in the app will show the exact number of unread notifications including retweets, likes, etc.

To enable it, open the Notifications setting under Settings and privacy. Then check the Unread notification count badge option.

Do Not Disturb

It’s necessary to keep the push notification settings according to your own preference otherwise you would want to throw your mobile away. And it’s not just about Twitter. Everyone loathes the app that sends irrelevant alerts.

To avoid such a situation with Twitter, we hope you were able to change and modify the push notification settings of the Twitter app.
