The best method to play MIDI files is using theVLC Media Player. However, you can’t play MIDI files using VLC Media Player right out of the box. Once youdownload and install VLC Media Playeron your PC, you mustdownload a SoundFont filefrom FluidSynth codec to play the MIDI files.

Step 1:LaunchVLC.

Step 2:Click onTools>Preferencesto install the codec into VLC.

Step 3:When aSimple Preferencesdialog appears on the screen > click onAllat the bottom left corner.

Step 4:Expand theAudio codecsdrop-down from theInput/Codecssection and selectFluidSynth.

Step 5:On the right panel, click onBrowse.

Step 6:Locate theSF2 (SoundFont)file you downloaded on your computer and click on it, followed byOpen.

Step7:ClickSaveto confirm the changes.

Step 8:Now, press theCtrl+Okeys simultaneously inside the VLC Media Player and select theMIDI file(s)you want to play. Then, click onOpen.
