Where to Find Screenshots on Windows 11 and 10

Where Does Snipping Tool Save Screenshots?

After taking a screenshot using the Snipping tool (or Shift + Windows key + S keyboard shortcut), if the notification says ‘Screenshot copied to the clipboard and saved’, that means your screenshot has been copied to the clipboard and also saved automatically on your PC.

You will find it in theMy Pictures > Screenshotsfolder that you can access fromThis PC\Pictures\ScreenshotsorC:\Users[your username]\Pictures\Screenshots.

Note:Screenshots will be automatically saved only if you’ve enabled the feature. Open theSnipping Tool app> click on thethree dots iconat the top right >Settings> Turn onAutomatically Save Screenshots.

Tip:Learn how tosave the screenshot to a different location.

However, if you haven’t enabled the toggle for Automatically Save Screenshots from the snipping tool settings, you will have to manually save the screenshots each time.

Manually Save Screenshots from the Snipping Tool

Step 1:Take a screenshot using the Snipping tool and click on thenotificationthat shows up.

Note: The screenshot will open in the Snipping tool editor, where you canannotate the image.

Step 2:To save the screenshot to your computer, click on theSave iconat the top.

Step 3:Choose thedestination folderin the Save as dialog box and click theSavebutton. Then, you will find the screenshot in the same folder where you saved it.

Find and Save Screenshots Captured via PrtSrc (Print Screen)

If you have pressed thePrint Screen key(PrntSc) for taking screenshots on your computer, your screenshots won’t save automatically. They will be copied to your clipboard, and you must use any photo-editing app (even Paint will do) to save the image to a folder.

Step 1:Open theMS Paint appon your computer and press theCtrl + Vbutton to paste the screenshot into the app.

Step 2: Click onFile>Save as. Then, choose thefile formatto save the image. The Save as dialog box will open. Save the screenshot at your preferred location.

Pro Tip:Use theWindows key + Vkeyboard shortcut to view other items present in yourcomputer’s clipboard.

Find and Save Screenshots Captured via Win + PrtSrc

If you use the Win + PrntSc keyboard shortcut to take screenshots, your full-screen screenshots are saved automatically to your computer. You will find them in thePictures> Screenshots folder, which can be accessed fromThis PC>Picturesor fromC:\Users[your username]\Pictures\Screenshots.

Find Screenshots Captured via Xbox Game Bar

If you use the Xbox Game Bar to take screenshots, follow the steps below to find the storage location of screenshots:

Step 1: OpenSettingson your PC and go toGaming, followed byCaptures.

Step 2:You will see the folder location under the Captures location. Click onOpen folderto open the folder with saved screenshots.

Other Ways to Find Screenshots on Your Windows PC

If there is no Screenshots folder on your PC, it might have moved to a different location. You can find your screenshots using the following methods:

Step 1:Click on thesearch baror the Windows icon at the bottom of the screen > typescreenshot. You will see the recently taken screenshot.

Step 2:Right-clickon it and selectOpen file location. That will open the file location of the screenshots folder.

2. Using the Photos App

Open theMicrosoft Photos appand you will find the recently taken screenshot.Right-clickon the screenshot and selectOpen in File Explorerto view the screenshot folder.

OpenFile Exploreron your PC and select C Drive. Enterdatemodified:todayin the search bar. You should see your screenshot.Right-clickthe screenshot and selectOpen file location.

4. Using This PC

OpenThis PC(or My Computer) and click onHome(or Quick Access). You will find theRecentsection. Look for the screenshot. Then,right-clickit and chooseOpen file location.

4. Check OneDrive Folder

If you useOneDrive on your Windows PC, your screenshots from Win + Print Screen or Snipping tool may be saved in the OneDrive folder instead of your PC. Go toC:\Users[your username]\OneDrive\Pictures\Screenshotsto find your screenshots.

If you want to stop OneDrive from storing your screenshots, click on the OneDrive icon in the taskbar. Then, click on the Settings icon followed by Settings. Go to the Backup tab and uncheckAutomatically save screenshots I capture to OneDrive. Now, this will save your screenshots in your computer’s Pictures folder.
