Basic Fixes

Why Can’t I Send Attachments in Gmail

Here are some of the possible reasons why you cannot attach files in Gmail on mobile or desktop.

Fix 1: Clear Cache and Cookies for Gmail

If you are still unable to attach files to your Gmail, try clearing the Cache and Cookies in your browser on your computer or for the Gmail app on your phone. Cache and Cookies are meant to improve your browsing experience but can get corrupted over time. You can remove them and then log in again to your Gmail account.

If you are Google Chrome user, check out our post to learn how toclear Gmail cache.

For Safari

OpenSafari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data > Search for Gmail > Remove.

On Firefox

OpenFirefox > Settings > Privacy and Security > Manage Data > Search for Gmail > Remove Selected.

For Android Phones

OpenGmail App Info > Storage and cache > Clear cache.

For iPhone

OpenSettings > General > Storage > Gmail > Offload App > Reinstall Gmail.

Fix 2: Storage Permissions

Gmail needs storage permissions to access and attach files from your mobile device. Here’s how to check the same on your Android or iPhone.

On Android

OpenGmail app info > Permissions > Files and media > Allow permissions.

On iPhone

Step 1:Open theSettingsapp on your iPhone and then selectGmail.

Step 2:Tap onPhotosat the top.

Step 3: Allow permissionto access your photos.

Fix 3: Check Google Drive Storage Status

Log in to your Google Drive account and then check how much storage is available to store new emails and attachments. Files greater than 25MB are shared via Google Drive. So you need enough storage space. If you have too many shared files, you can alwaysremove themto create more storage space.
