Reasons Your Laptop’s Mousepad Is Not Working When Plugged In

Before we start troubleshooting this issue, let’s examine a few potential reasons your laptop’s mousepad does not work properly once the charger is connected.

How to Fix Mousepad Issues on Windows When the Device Is Plugged In

Now that we know why this problem occurs, let’s look at five ways to fix it on your Windows 11 laptop.

Basic Fixes:

Fix 1: Try Using a Different Charger

To check if your laptop’s charger can be the main culprit behind your mousepad not working properly, use a different charger. Ensure it is compatible and has the same voltage as the previous one. If the mousepad is working properly, the issue is with the charger. Change it as soon as possible.

Fix 2: Uninstall and Reinstall Mouse Drivers

Ifyour device’s mouse drivers are faulty, the mouse pointer can go haywire once the charger is connected. To fix this, uninstall the currently installed mouse drivers. Once done, reinstall a fresh copy to fixany previous issues. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1:OpenDevice Manager> click onMice and other pointing devices> right-click yourmouse driver> selectUninstall device.

Step 2:Click onUninstallto confirm.

Once done, press the Windows key on your laptop’s keyboard and use the arrow buttons torestart your Windows 11 laptop. This will reinstall the mouse drivers.

Fix 3: Use a Different Socket

If your laptop’s charger is not receiving enough power, it might cause charging-related issues. This can also happen if you’re using an extension cable. So, connect the charger to a different socket or directly into the socket and use your laptop for a while. If the mouse works properly, change the socket.

Fix 4: Update BIOS

While BIOS doesn’t usually require an update, you can do it if certain Windows components are not working properly. To do this, enter your device’s BIOS. Then, refer to the manufacturer’s website to update the BIOS. If you’re unsure of how to do it, exit the BIOS and ask a professional for help.

Fix 5: Get Your Laptop Checked

If you’ve tried the above fixes and your laptop’s mousepad still does not work properly when connected to a charger, get your laptop checked at an authorized service center. They can help diagnose issues like faulty mousepads or motherboards and provide an appropriate resolution.
